  • Barrel lengths will create different suppression sounds.
  • Different ammunition and bullets will create different suppression sounds.
  • Suppressors sound quieter in open fields compared to other environments because of sound waves bouncing off of trees etc.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: How Often Does a Suppressor Need to be Cleaned?

A: Traditional centerfire silencers require little maintenance. High-flow suppressors should be cleaned every few thousand rounds to maintain performance. Rimfire suppressors get very dirty and need to be cleaned every few hundred rounds for optimal performance.

Q: Can I Use One Silencer for Multiple Calibers?

A: You can use a larger caliber suppressor to suppress a smaller caliber firearm as long as you have the appropriate adapters. Using a larger caliber silencer is not as efficient as a silencer made for the specific caliber, but it will still be a significant sound reduction in most cases.

Q: Is It Legal to Own a Silencer?

A: Under federal law, it has never been illegal to own a silencer. If it is legal for you to buy a handgun, and you live in a state that allows silencer ownership, then it is probably legal for you to own a silencer. The basic requirements are as follows:

  • You must be at least 21 years old
  • You must live in a state that allows ownership
  • You must not have any felony convictions

Q: What are the benefits of owning a suppressor?

A: There are countless benefits of owning a silencer, a few of which include:
1. Better Experience – Game is less likely to spook while hunting.
2. Reduces Recoil – Significantly reduces recoil when you shoot.
3. Increased Accuracy – Because of recoil reduction.
4. Less Noise – Means you won’t disrupt neighbors, family or pets.
5. Great for Family – Added safety for even the youngest family members.

Q: What is the Difference Between QD vs. Direct Thread?

A: Direct thread silencers screw directly onto the muzzle threads of a firearm, making it the simplest mounting system and saving on added weight and length. QD or Quick Detatch systems include provisions to attach the silencer faster, have a more secure attachment, and move the silencer easily to different guns.

Q: What is a Suppressor Tax Stamp?

A: A tax stamp is a required tax to the federal government to purchase NFA items like silencers, SBRs, and machine guns.

Q: How Much is a Tax Stamp?

A: Tax stamps costs $200 which goes to the federal government.

Q: How Long Does it Take to Get a Tax Stamp?

A: Most customers receive their approved Form 4 tax stamps between 1 day and 7 months (as of July 2024).

Q: If I file as an Individual, can I change it to a trust at a later date?

A: Yes, you can add any silencer to a trust after you buy it by filing as an individual. Just keep in mind a few things. You will need to have legal help in setting up the new trust and adding in the silencer. There will likely be fees involved, but we can’t predict what those will be. There is also the issue of a tax stamp. If you transfer your silencer to a trust, you will need to buy a new tax stamp for it under the trust, according to the ATF.
